Lifelong New Yorker Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz is bidding farewell to his Manhattan home of almost a decade. According to the New York Post, the Beastie Boys rapper and guitarist has listed the apartment he and his wife, musician Kathleen Hanna, purchased in 2013. The current asking price is $3.15 million; the couple initially paid $2.95 million.
The 2,400-square-foot loft is located on the 10th floor of a Chelsea co-op building, and was renovated by Horovitz and Hanna throughout their ownership. It includes three bedrooms and three bathrooms, with a main suite that features a large walk-in closet and an ensuite bathroom complete with a steam shower.
The home is centered around a great room encompassing living, dining, and kitchen areas, with light hardwood floors and a high exposed ceiling painted white. Its open-plan layout is kept bright and airy thanks to a wall of large windows, crisp white walls, and a kitchen decked out in all-white cabinetry, countertops, and appliances.
Though born and raised in New York, Horovitz has in recent years split his time between the East and West Coasts. In 2018, he and Hanna bought a century-old Craftsman in South Pasadena for $1.73 million. That home boasts the same square footage as their Chelsea abode, but tacks on a covered front porch, two patios, and a sizable backyard filled with garden space and fruit trees.
In a May 2020 interview with The New Yorker, Horovitz described the ongoing inner battle between his “dirty” Manhattan upbringing and his new Los Angeles lifestyle. “My favorite time in New York is summertime, ‘cause it’s hot, it’s sticky and gross, and everybody just looks so awful. I love it. So I don’t really feel at peace or at home here [in L.A.],” he said. “But it’s f—ing nice. I don’t know what else to say. I can have a battle with myself. Then it’s like, you know, it’s going to be 84 degrees today.”
